ArtKit vs. Etsy Fees for Artists

Keep more of each sale by moving repeat collectors from marketplace discovery into a storefront you control.

Fee math on a $500 artwork

On ArtKit, the platform fee is 5% plus payment processing. Stripe processing is typically 2.9% + 30 cents per card transaction. On a $500 sale, that means about $25 to ArtKit and about $14.80 to Stripe, or roughly $39.80 total before shipping, tax, or optional services.

Large art marketplaces and gallery-like platforms can take 35% to 50% once commission, listing, promotion, and payment fees are counted together. At 35%, the same $500 sale costs $175. At 50%, it costs $250. The gap is the money that can fund better packaging, studio time, or collector follow-up.

Where Etsy can still help

Etsy can be useful for early discovery, especially for artists who are testing demand and have not built an audience yet. The tradeoff is that the customer relationship lives inside a marketplace experience.

ArtKit is built for artists who want a home base: branded pages, an owned domain, collector inquiries, email capture, and direct commerce without sending buyers through a crowded marketplace grid.

Practical migration plan

Keep marketplace listings for discovery while adding your ArtKit storefront to packaging inserts, Instagram bio links, collector emails, and commission conversations.

  • Move repeat buyers to your own domain first.
  • Use marketplace listings to test price points, then publish finished collections on ArtKit.
  • Link high-intent buyers to your pricing and storefront features instead of only to a marketplace profile.
